Need for a Facility
The first major hurdle in our goal to set up the St. John Center is the need for a facility. The needs will include plenty of classroom and conference space, office & library space and housing for visiting scholars, professors and students. Recently after envisioning this, we came across a property located about a 5 minute drive from downtown Providence. The property consists of a large Victorian mansion that is almost 4000 square feet. It at one time served as a bed and breakfast. It is an elegant building, but will require some updating. It also has a newly renovated office building consisting of another 4000 square feet of classroom space. This is a beautiful facility with three apartments that can be used for student/scholar residences or class space, based upon needs with about 2000 square feet of pure office/class space. It currently sits on a half acre of land right next to a Roman Catholic girl’s school.
An Opportunity
As it turns out, the owner of this building is a Christian businessman and scientist who has a personal vision of the the advance of the Gospel in New England. As it is a unique property that has turned out to be very hard to get conventional financing on, He has not been able to sell it for the last two years since the mortgage market has suffered. I have shared with him our vision for the St. John Center and PSTM in detail and we have prayed about it together. He is very enthusiastic about what we are trying to do. As it stands, he was asking around five hundred thousand dollars for the whole property, which in itself is a bargain here in the North East.
Will you Please help us purchase a home for the St. John Center
This is a huge opportunity to save possibly tens of thousands of dollars of the values or more. It is just necessary that we find others to come forward and give to this vision. This means if we can raise the necessary funds to cover pay off the note, we can acquire this building at a fraction of its value.
